Abstract/Contents:"This trial was conducted on a rough at Sagamore-Hampton Golf Course, North Hampton, NH. All treatments were applied on 13 Sep. Two rates of the Novartis product were irrigated immediately with 0.25 inch of water; all other treatments were irrigated on 16 Sep. No rainfall fell between 13 Sep and 16 Sep. The plots were 49ft², replicated five times in a RCB design. All treatments were applied using a 7-ft boom on a 2-wheel, bicycle-type CO₂ sprayer; the boom was equipped with four 8005 fan-type nozzles, fitted with 50- mesh screens. The volume of water and insecticide was 2gal/1000 ft², delivered at 40 psi. Weather conditions at the time of application were as follows: sky, clear; wind, 5-10 mph; air temp, 69°F. Soil conditions were as follows: soil surface temp, 70.9°F; at 1-inch depth, 71.2°F; at 2-inch depth, 68°F; texture, loam; sand, 48%; silt, 43%; clay, 9%; thatch, 1/4 inch; organic matter, 13%; moisture, 27.2%; pH, 7.3. The trial was rated for live EC larvae on 7 Oct; 1 ft² areas of turf were samples in each plot using a sod cutter to remove the turf. No treatment provided acceptable control. Thiamethoxam and Mach-2 showed little efficacy against 3^D]rd-instar European chafer."
