Abstract/Contents:Suggests that "the most important point in landscaping a golf course is that of getting the proper plant material in the desired place. What is good for some areas is not always good for another. Before choosing plant material be sure to look over the site for various conditions and that intent of the area to be planted. From this you can usually select the proper size, shape, and number of plants needed. Next analyze the things that have a direct relationship to the plants; such as the type of soil, any views or existing items (plants, building or ground forms) and utilities (drains, water and electric lines or cart paths). With all these things in mind you can begin choosing plant material. The new plant material should fit the landscape and go with existing plants. One of the difficult parts of landscaping is choosing plants for specific areas." Provides a list of trees and shrubs that have been found suitable for planting on the golf course, including trees suitable for wet and dry areas, small trees and shrubs, large trees, and evergreens. Also indicates trees not suitable for golf course use, including sweetgum, sycamore, mulberry, and poplar.
