Abstract/Contents: | Describes several growth regulators (alone and in combinations) that have been used at Penn State University to reduce Poa populations in fairway turf. Lists possible drawbacks to this type of program, including the discoloration of existing turf. Results indicate that there is evidence that fall application of growth regulators on turf-type perennial ryegrasses has caused stand losses due to winter-kill. Concludes that initial use of maleic hydrazide (MH) for Poa control should be tried on a limited scale in combination with overseeding. |
