Abstract/Contents: | Bensulide ((O,O-diisopropyl phosphorodithioate) s-ester with N-(2-mercaptomethyl)benzenesulfonamide), profluralin -N-(cyclopropylmethyl)-a,a,a-trifluoro-2,6-dinitro-N-propyl- p-toluidine), butralin (4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)-N-(1-methyl- propyl)-2,6-dinitrobenzenamine), DCPA (dimethyl tetrachloro- terephthalate), PPG-139 (chemistry not released), oxadiazon (2-tert-butyl-4-(2,4-dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl)-delta2-1,3 ,4-oxadiazolin-5-one) and benefin (N-butyl-N-ethyl-a,a,a- trifluoro-2,6-dinitro-p-toluidine) were evaluated at two application dates (April 17, 1974 and May 15, 1974) as varying formulations at several rates for control of goosegrass (Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn.) and smooth crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum L.). Plots containing profluralin (2G) at 4 lb ai/A and oxadiazon (2G) at 2.3 and 4 lb ai/A contained less than 15% goosegrass on October 16, 1974 regardless of time of application (Check plots 40%). Single degree of freedom non-orthogonal linear contrasts were utilized to determine which formulations provided best control of goosegrass. On October 16,, 1974 13% less (P < .05) goosegrass was found in plots containing butralin 2.3% granular on vermiculite (2.3GV) at 4.5 and 6 lb ai/A than in plots receiving butralin (50WP) at 4.5 and 6 lb ai/A. PPG-139 (5GC) plots at 10 and 15 lb ai/A contained 19% goosegrass which was significantly less (P < .01) than that found in the PPG-139 3 lb ai/gal flowable (FL3) plots (43%). Percent of plot area in goosegrass was similar for PPG-139 (FL3) plots (43%) and the PPG-139 (5GV) plots (30%). Percent of plot area in goosegrass with profluralin (2G) at 2 and 4 lb ai/A was respectively 15% (P < .05), 12% (P < .10) and 27% (P < .01) less than that found in the bensulide (3.6G) plots at 7.5 and 10 lb ai/A. |
