Abstract/Contents:"This trial was conducted on a hay field in Holderness, NH. On 23 Jul, 10 treatments, replicated six times, were applied to 105-ft² plots separated by a 1-ft buffer. The trial layout was a RCB design. All liquid treatments were applied using a 7-ft boom on a 2-wheel, bicycle-type CO₂ sprayer. The boom was equipped with four 8005 fan-type nozzles, fitted with 50-mesh screens. The volume of water and insecticide mix was 2 gal/1000 ft², delivered at 40 psi. Granular formulations were applied evenly on the plots using large salt shakers. None of the treatments were irrigated. In the Talstar plots where a combination of Dursban Pro and Talstar F were separate applications, with the Dursban applied first and Talstar immediately afterwards. Plots were mowed at a ht of 3 inches. At the time of application, the weather conditions were as follows: sky, mostly sunny; wind, light; air temp, 84.7°F. The soil conditions were as follows: surface temp, 83.5°F; at 1-inch depth, 82.1°F; soil texture, sandy loam; sand, 61%; silt, 31%; clay, 8%; thatch, less than 0.06-inch; pH, 6.1; organic matter, 5.3%; moisture, 9.9%. The plots were rated for active ant mounds at 3, 7, 14, 31 and 40 DAT. Using 70% as the standard for good control, all treatments except Deltagard and Talstar G (0.2 lb) gave good control at 3 DAT. At 14 DAT, Talstar F (0.2 lb) Talstar G (0.4 lb), both Talstar F+G rates, Talstar + Dursban, and Dursban gave good control. By 31 DAT, only the Talstar F+G combinations, Talstar + Dursban, and Dursban were satisfactory. No treatment was acceptable at 40DAT. There was no advantage to mixing Talstar and Dursban compared to Dursban alone. There was a significant advantage of the Talstar F+G combination over Talstar F alone. The high rate of Talstar G (0.4 lb) performed as well as the Talstar F (0.2 lb) + Talstar G (0.4 lb) combination. There was no phytotoxicity observed. The ammonium sulfate in the Deltagard granule caused a significant increase in green color."
