| Abstract/Contents: | "Twenty 50 x 3 ft plots along the walls of a residence hall complex on the campus of Michigan State University were set up on 29 Jun. A 20 ft buffer was left between the plots. Ants were sampled by placing three 100 mm petri dishes containing 3 mls of a corn syrup based artificial pancake syrup in each plot. After 6 h, the number of ants was counted. Ants were counted on 29 Jun to determine if all of the plots contained ant populations. The plots were sampled again on 7 Jul to block the plots. Treatments were applied on 8 Jul using an R & D CO₂-powered sprayer at 40 psi with a single 8008 nozzle. Each plot was treated with 2.5 gal of finished spray with 1 ft of the wall of the building also treated. The check plots were also treated with 2.5 gal of water. Post-treatment counts were made on 9, 15, 22 Jul and 5, 11, 19 Aug in the same manner as the pre-counts. The data are presented in two tables. The first gives the total number of ants trapped in each plot. The second table gives the number of petri dishes per replicate containing ants. All the chemical treatments gave immediate knockdown and, after 6 wks, still showed less ants in less places than the water checks." |
