Abstract/Contents:Lists two possible reasons for greens reconstruction: "Does the old green have enough pin placements for the increased play? [And] are there too many unfair pin placements on the present greens which cause slow play?" Focuses on the problems of a straight sand and peat or humus mix used in green construction. States that "the straight sand and humus mix [is] somewhat of a problem because it takes a while to establish a good stand of turf." Advises that "a sand mix is much easier to grade, and thus easier to get a truer putting surface." Concludes that "after many years of establishment, sand greens will always be firmer than the old conventional green."
