| Abstract/Contents: | "Bentazon (3-isopropyl-1 H,2,1,3-benzothiadiazinone-(4) 3 H-one 2,2-dioxide), perfluidone (1,1,1-trifluoro-N-(2 methyl -4-(phenylsulfonyl)=phenyl)methanesulfonamide) and 2,4-D ((2,4-dichlorophenoxy)acetic acid) plus DSMA (disodium methanearsonate) were tested for their ability to control yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus L.) in a turfgrass mixture of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) and Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.). Bentazon and 2,4-D plus DSMA affected good initial kill of existing yellow nutsedge. Bentazon and perfluidone injured the tall fescue under the dry, hot post-spray conditions of this experiment. Approximately 13 months after the initial application, bentazon at 0.75 lb ai/A and perfluidone at 4.0 lb ai/A provided 79% and 61% control, respectively, of yellow nutsedge. Bentazon at 1.5 lb ai/A, perfluidone at 3.0 lb ai/A and 2,4-D + DSMA at (1.0 + 5.0 lb ai/A) provided 40%, 16%, and 30% control, respectively." |
