| Abstract/Contents: | "The specific effects of several herbicides on the development and morphology of apothecia of S. sclerotiorum were examined. The percentage of sclerotia germinating carpogenically in soil containing 4 ug to 10 mg atrazine/g or in 10-50 uM atrazine solution was the same as that in controls without atrazine, but stipes were distorted, and only infertile, abnormally-shaped apothecial discs were produced. Numerous stipes grew from the aborted hymenia of immature apothecia soaked in 50 uM atrazine for 30 min. Metribuzin at 500 ug/g soil completely prevented carophenic germination. These herbicdes did not affect mycelial growth rate on water agar containing 50 ug/ml." |
