| Abstract/Contents: | "Seashore paspalum or saltwater couch is a warm season rhizomatous/stoloniferous perennial turfgrass. This species has ocean-level salt tolerance, drought tolerance when managed properly in a turfgrass situation, has water-logging tolerance, low light intensity tolerance, low fertilizer element requirements but a high efficiency in uptake of nutrients, and minimal pesticide requirements. A collection of accessions has been assembled, beginning in 1993, and potential uses of grass include: turfgrass in golf, sports, home lawn/landscape arenas, coastal beach erosion control/stabilization, bioremediation, and roadsides particularly in low areas between 35 degrees North-South latitudes. This obscure species has the potential to be one of the most environmentally friendly grasses in the 21st century." |
