| Abstract/Contents: | "The quality of the soil used in sand-soil mixes for sports turf can have an important effect on the success of such rootzone materials. A survey was carries out on soils intended for amelioration to identify factors that determine the acceptance or rejection of the material. More than one factor can be of importance and the survey suggested that 70% of rejected soils were unsatisfactory in texture and 41% had problems associated with soil structure. Lime content was important when the soil was to be used in the construction of fine turf areas. Acceptable limits for soil texture, stone content, loss on ignition, clay dispersibility coefficients and pH are suggested." |
