Abstract/Contents:"Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizae (VAM) form a symbiosis with the roots of many species of plants, including turfgrass. They have been shown to have beneficial effects on plant's [plants'] mineral nutrition and biotic and abiotic stress tolerance. Our objective was to assess the impact of the inoculation of VAM on growth and quality of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) and Kentucky bluegrass (Poa prastensis). Commercial inoculum of Glomus intraradices and Glomus etunicatum (Premier Tech, Rivière-du-Loup, Québec) were applied at different concentration on creeping bentgrass and Kentucky bluegrass. Turfgrass visual quality rating, dry weight of clippings, length and dry weight of roots, colonization of roots by VAM, and the incidence of summer diseases were evaluated during the summer of 1999 and 2000. Our results indicate that VAM decreased the incidence of dollar spot (Sclerotinia homeocarpa) on golf green. The effects of VAM inoculation on turfgrass growth and quality will be presented."
