| Abstract/Contents: | "Fungicides applications on creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera) to cure diseases caused by fungi represent the most frequent use of the pesticides on golf courses. Stimulation of plant's defense system against fungi by the use of potassium silicate appears to be a promising approach to reduce both economical and environmental costs associated with the use of chemical treatments. Our objectives were to determine potassium silicate influence on the incidence of pythium root rot (Pythium aphanidermatum) and dollar spot (Sclerotinia homeocarpa F.T. Benett) on creeping bentgrass golf greens. Greenhouse grown plants were treated with potassium silicate from seedling to the end of the experiment and inoculated with either of the pathogens. Preliminary results shown [show] a 50% reduction in mortality for pythium inoculated plants at 100 ppm SiO2." |
