| Abstract/Contents: | "The potential for pesticide runoff from urban landscapes has drawn public attention. Our objective was to compare pesticide runoff between impervious (concrete) surfaces and pervious (turf) surfaces in a simulated urban landscape. The turf was a Kentucky bluegrass mowed at 6 cm. Plots were constructed on a 5% slope and weirs were used to collect runoff. Turf insecticides and herbicides were applied to both surfaces in accordance with either a landscape professional or homeowner maintenance regime. The amount of runoff was quantified after each rainfall or irrigation event. Aliquots from each water sample were processed using solid phase extraction then analyzed using HPLC to determine the type and amount of residue present in water sample. Runoff from pervious turf surfaces was negligible to impervious concrete surfaces. Results from the HPLC water analysis of the impervious and pervious surface runoff will be discussed." |
