| Abstract/Contents: | "Information concerning the effects of herbicides on Supina bluegrass (Poa supina) is very limited. Our objective was to determine the tolerance of Supina bluegrass to pre- and post-emergent herbicides. Fifteen commercially available broadleaf and grass herbicides were evaluated. Broadleaf herbicides were applied post-emergent in the autumn; pre-emergent herbicides were applied in the spring. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replications. Turf was rated weekly for color, quality, density, weed control, and phytotoxicity. MCPP was the only broadleaf herbicide to cause phytotoxicity, which lasted for two weeks. Ethofumesate, at both high and low label rates, significantly delayed spring green-up. All plots eventually recovered from phytotoxicity without suffering long-term effects. Further research is needed to discover a selective control for use on Supina bluegrass." |
