| Abstract/Contents: | "Growth regulators are one type of tool that can be used to attempt management of annual bluegrass in bentgrass. The efficacy of ethephon in the restriction of annual bluegrass has not been established. To that end, Ethephon (E) 142 ml/1000 sq ft, trinexapac ethyl (T) 14 ml, flurprimidol (F) 21 g, paclobutrazol (P) 8 g, and ethofumesate (EF) 85 ml were compared when applied to 2.5-cm annual bluegrass on April 6 in two years. Seed head growth was restricted by T 35% four weeks, E 40% six weeks, F 72% five weeks, P 52% five weeks, and EF 55% five weeks. The turf quality of annual bluegrass was reduced by T 25% three weeks, F 65% five weeks, P 52% five weeks, and EF 38% three weeks. Turf quality was not reduced by E. These results indicate that ethephon was effective in reducing seed head growth of annual bluegrass while not lowering its quality." |
