| Abstract/Contents: | "Turfgrass education has been considered as a part of the regular high school agricultural education curriculum in almost all states in the US. High school turfgrass education has a significant impact to high school students about the turfgrass industry and the future college students in turfgrass science and management. High school agricultural teachers need a suitable-turfgrass curriculum with updated information and the adequate course design including hand-on experience and laboratory exercies. Currently, the materials suitable for turfgrass education at the high school level are very limited. The purpose of this project was to develop a complete high school turfgrass curriculum. The curriculum includes the following major units: golf course management, lawn care, landscape maintenance, sports turf, and environmental issues. The lessons were designed with proper amount of hand-on laboratory exercises, field trips, schoolyard exercises, and activities interacting with the turfgrass industry. The curriculum was designed in the form of hard copy and electronic forms with access and link to college turf education programs, professional organizations, publications and other sources. The design, development, and testing of this curriculum will be discussed." |
