| Abstract/Contents: | "Seven experimental and four commercial preemergence crabgrass herbicides were applied to Kentucky bluegrass and Creeping red fescue. Injury was more severe on creeping red fescue than Kentucky bluegrass except for EL-46531. Granular A-820 was the superior experimental chemical for both crabgrass control and tolerance, followed closely by the high rate of granular (vermiculite carrier) and flowable formulations of PPG-139. The high rate of the wettable powder and emulsified formulations of A-820 were comparable to the granular DCPA. EL-46531 and G-10832 caused unacceptable injury at rates giving acceptable control. Although injury from both benefin materials was tolerable, control was not as good as from DCPA. The 3.6% formulation of bensulide was superior to the 7% formulation at both rates. PPG 124 provided short term control of crabgrass, but injury to both Kentucky bluegrass and creeping red fescue was severe." |
