| Abstract/Contents: | "Carbaryl 43 percent SL, carbaryl UCSF-54 (both at 6.7 and 9.0 kg ai/ha), permethrin 3.2 EC, permethrin 1.5 G (both at 0.22 kg/ha), and chlorpyrifos 0.5 G (at 1.2 kg ai/ha) were applied to caged field plots of St. Augustinegrass, Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze, turf to control southern chinch bugs, Bliscus insularis Barber (Hemiptera: Lygaeidae). All materials significantly reduced the populations of treated insects. The two formulations of permethrin were moderately effective; chinch bug population reductions by other treatments were between ca. one to two powers of magnitude compared to the untreated plots. No treatment-related phytotoxicity was detected." |
