Abstract/Contents: | Discusses sports turf performance in Australia, stating that "despite promises about the performance of turf surfaces at some major venues, the failure of some to deliver has also been in the media" due to the fact that "the two objectives of increased and diverse usage and their impact on turf quality, and the expectations of both spectators and players for surfaces of excellence, are diametrically opposed." Also discusses the recent problems of "reduced turf density leading to the exposure of bare ground and unsafe conditions." Also states that "poor performances could be tracked to bad decisions in areas of ill-chosen top dressings poorly conceived chemical programs, bad mowing practices and importation of problems in construction soil mixes." |
