Abstract/Contents:Discusses using preemergence herbicides to "help landscape contractors win the war on weeds before it starts". Also discusses the importance of timing herbicide application, stating "preemergence herbicides do not suppress seed germination. Additionally, most have very little postemergence capabilities, so if weeds are already visible, applications will have little or no effect." Briefly profiles several preemergence herbicides, including benefin, ethofumesate, pendimethalin, and dithiopyr. Describes various cultural control methods for weed control including increasing mowing heights, topdressing, irrigation practices, and avoiding early spring fertilization.
