Abstract/Contents:"Morphogenic events of callus initiation and plantlet regeneration were investigated in St. Augustinegrass. Callus was initiated from sterilized caryopsis at 25 C on 25 ml of a Linsmaier and Skoog media. In preliminary test, callus was shown to originate from the embryo. Combinations of 2,4-D or IAA plus kinetin have been used to regenerate plants. In regeneration, callus harvested at 20 days showed distinct regions of organized meristematic activity, however root and shoot initials were not observed. Later samplings 30-40 days after inoculation, showed development of root and shoot apices." incubated at 25 deg C on Linsmaier and Skoog medium supplemented and 2,4-D or IAA + kinetin, developed root and shoot apices 30-40 days after inoculation.
