Abstract/Contents:"Demand for golf in the U.S. has led to increased turf stress and infestation of bryophytes. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of timing, topdressing, spray volume, and nutrition on the establishment and regeneration of golf putting green populations of silvery thread moss. Treatments of copper hydroxide alone, and in a premix combination with Mancozeb were applied at 9.7 kg copper/ha, with and without topdressing, at 748 and 1497 liters/ha, in the Spring only, Fall only, and spring and fall. Four applications were made at two week intervals for each timing. Initial moss populations were used as the covariate at each location due to increasing populations overtime. Moss populations were completely eradicated when treated in the Spring and Fall, with Spring only and Fall only application schedules not significantly different. No significant differences were observed between the copper hydroxide alone and the premix combination. Significant main effects were observed for topdressing and spray volume. Populations were reduced by 96% when treated with copper hydroxide after topdressing at 748 liters/ha. Fall applied treatments appear to prevent regeneration of moss populations."
