Abstract/Contents:Presents a study to test three different management strategies on three different bentgrass cultivars and two different putting green types to determine the best method of maintaining desired putting green speed. Plots were evaluated for root mass density, effective rooting depth, putting green speed, quality, crown dry weight, algae, and dollar spot infection. Results include that "mowing height was the primary determinant of putting green speed and quality. The influence of mowing height on bentgrass root growth exceeded that of putting green type." Overall, "putting green type had no influence on speed or quality," although "the push-up green maintained healthier turf with regard to root growth and stand density." Cultivar influence on speed, quality, root growth, turf density, and algae invasion was generally insignificant."
