Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study that "tested the effect of seed encapsulation on turfgrass establishment" in order to "develop alternative uses to reduce the paper mill waste stream" and "determine if the product is suitable to enhance turfgrass seeding and establishment characteristics." Results include that "seed encapsulation did not affect turf color compared to untreated seed when averaged over mulch type and fertility treatments" and "did significantly enhance turf color when straw or Pennmulch was used as a mulch during establishment[...]." Encapsulated seeds "retained dramatically more moisture" and "were significantly less likely to float than untreated seeds." They also "resulted in significantly lower quality turf and delayed establishment compared to unencapsulated seeds." |
