Abstract/Contents: | Answers the questions: "What effects do de-icing salts have on plants? How can the problem be mitigated?" States that "de-icing salts adversely affect plant growth by interrupting water relationships between the plant and soil, thus making it more difficult for plants to take up water." Also states that little can be done after application of de-icing salts. Comments that "creating a channel to divert runoff away from plants" may prevent damage. Suggests using non-salt materials. |
