Abstract/Contents:"Acetylene reduction by algal mats (almost entirely Nostoc sp.) from amongst kikuyu grass (Pennisetum clandestinum) lawns in Pretoria occurs throughout the night. Dark acetylene reduction is dependent on dark respiration which in turn is determined by the rate of photosynthesis prior to darkness. Acetylene reduction in the dark has a requirement for ambient levels of oxygen."
