Abstract/Contents:Focuses on the AgriBioTech bankruptcy, stating that "fallout from the ABT bankruptcy comes in many forms. One byproduct is the growing establishment of farmer-owned seed companies...Unfulfilled contracts, poor pricing and excessive inventories have fostered a desire among many growers to go it alone." Also focuses on genetically modified turfgrasses, stating that "the Scotts Company - in cooperation with scientists at Rutgers, Cornell and Monsanto - is working to deregulate the development of Roundup-resistant creeping bentgrass" but notes that transgenic plants may become "weeds" themselves. It is also possible that their herbicide resistant genes may cross with other related grass species. Also discusses the emerging Chinese market, stating that "demand for improved turfgrasses continues to rise. New airports, commercial buildings, parks and sports fields have been key compnents to this growing demand for improved turfgrass." Also focuses on sod production in China, stating that "sod production is relatively young in most of China...commerical sod production is less than a decade old in the Shanghai region."
