Abstract/Contents:Discusses the increasing use of potassium. States that potassium provides many benefits to turf such as "better drought, heat, cold and tear tolerances." Includes a study conducted on a mature sward of Tifgreen bermudagrass. Explains that the study focused on "visual quality, susceptibility to take-all disease, clipping production, tissue levels of N and K, and thatch and root weight" of turf. Reports the "K did have significant postive effects on most of the parameters they studied," but it didn't matter how much K a plant receieved. States that the researchers measured tissue K levels and found that "K fertilization resulted in significantly higher tissue levels than no K fertilization, but higher appliations rates of K increased tissue K levels only slightly." Suggests that N and K rates found in most standard turf fertilizers may be adequate to satsify turf's needs.
