Abstract/Contents:Discusses newly found plant pathogens including sudden oak death, plum pox potyvirus, daylily rust, elm yellows, and other diseases. Explains that plum pox damages stone-fruit tree species and spreads through seed. States that this virus seems to infect only ornamental plants such as purple-leaf plum in Europe. States that daylily rust is one of the Puccinia species originally from Georgia. Alerts that "it could be widespread than currently known." Explains that elm yellows ourbreaks in the Chicago area caused by a phytoplasma. States that a phytoplasma is related to bacteria infecting plants. Explains that "this disease infects the entire crown and does not discolor the sapwood." Also, discusses other diseases such as Venturia inaequalis, Phytophthora syringae, and lethal yellowing. Concluded that "you should be aware of cultural practices that promote healthy, vigorous, but not luxurrriant, plant growth."
