Abstract/Contents: | Describes the effort of Jesse R. Cuevas Jr., of Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, NE, in preparing for the 2001 College World Series, which can have up to 15 games in 10 days and other related events. Discusses Cuevas's general daily maintencance routine which includes mowing the Kentucky Bluegrass daily at 1 ¼-inch, monitoring the weather through the on-site DTN satellite system, overseeding, aerating every four to five games, and finally weekly fertilization. Comments that the work put into the field has turned the field in a "national facility, even more than some of the Major League Parks." Addresses the improvements to Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium when it gets 700 more general admission seats, 500 more reserved seats, a reconfiguration of the warning track, and the moving of the light towers to Major League standards. Despite all of these improvements, Cuevas suggests that the "preperation for the College World Series [is] a never ending task." |
