Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of surfactants to combat soil water repellency. States that soil water repellency occurs most commonly in the top two inches of the soil profile; measurements of severity can be made with the water droplet penetration test. Suggests the regular application of surfactant products every three to four weeks, or using long term surfactants which should be applied every three months; some long term varieties can be applied once a season. Provides results of trials evaluating surfactant efficacy in regards to application timing and type of surfactant applied. Concludes that "to maintain low levels of soil water repellency and manage the associated symptoms, regardless of the length of the growing season monthly surfactant applications at lower rates may be the best options." |
