Abstract/Contents:In pot and field trials, cocksfoot, meadow fescue and timothy were grown alone or in mixtures and were given various rates of NPK and cut twice or 3-7 times/year. Maximum tillering was found in the 2nd and 3rd years. The growth pattern depended on species, fertilizer rate, water supply and cutting regime. In cocksfoot, application of NPK fertilizer decreased, but did not prevent, the decrease in tillering after the 3rd year. Application of high rates of N gave good yields in the 4th and 5th years and decreased the intervals between cuts.
