| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the joint project of the DEQ Office of the Great Lakes and Michigan State University to establish buffer zone parameters on golf course properties specific to water protection. Defines buffers as vegetated areas adjacent to bodies of water which intercept surface runoff possibly containing pollutants such as nitrogen and phosphorous, pesticides, and sediment. States that width of buffer zones will be determined on a site-specific basis. Also states criteria for in-play areas: "not all zones must be used in each situation depending on space limitations"; "the in-play areas require turfgrass to be less than 8 inches tall to allow play"; "increased mowing heights of turfgrass are incorporated into the in-play zones"; and "a management plan for inputs will be implemented for each in-play buffer zone area". |
