Abstract/Contents:"Pink snow mold (Microdochium nivale) and gray snow mold (Typhula spp.) are important turfgrass diseases in Colorado, especially in high-elevation golf courses. Fungicide efficacy trials are carried out annually. In the 1998 and 1999 field trials, a strobilurin-based fungicide was tested alone and in combination with other fungicides at Vail (2450 m) and Breckenridge (2750 m), Colorado. Applications were made in the fall. Visual evaluations were recorded in the spring. The 1999 results indicate that all but one treatment provided significant control of both diseases. Strobilurin alone performed poorly, but in combination with chlorothalonil gave excellent control. Snow cover in 2000 was inconsistent between sites, and disease development varied accordingly. Strobilurin alone provided poor control. The strobilurin/chlorothalonil combination again was comparable to the better treatments. The use of strobilurin fungicides in combination with other fungicide chemistry may play an important role in disease control. Strobilurin treatments were expanded in 2000/2001 trials."
