Abstract/Contents:"Azoxystrobin (azo) failed to control gray leaf spot (GLS) of perennial ryegrass at a local golf course during Aug 00. Fungicide-resistant isolates (RI) were compared to baseline isolates (BLI) from sites with no use of QoI fungicides. For BLI, ranges for EC(50) values for conidial germination in vitro in 100 ug/ml SHAM acid were 0.015-0.064, 0.013-0.078, and 0.006-0.058 ug/ml for azo, trifloxystrobin (tri), and pyraclostrobin (pyr), respectively; EC50 values for RI were 2.39-44.8, 0.31-111, and 0.194-11.2 ug/ml, respectively. Azo, tri, and pyr provided complete control of five BLI in planta. For three of four RI tested, azo and tri provided very poor to no control; the fourth isolate was partially controlled by azo and fully controlled by tri. Pyr provided partial control of two strains and complete control of the others. We conclude that one or more biotypes of ryegrass-infecting strains of P. grisea with resistance to QoI fungicides have emerged."
