Abstract/Contents:Reviews studies done in New Zealand prior to World War II regarding fertilization. Stresses that research results closely resembled those of the U. K. and the U. S. A. States that soon after the war an interest in "weed greens" prompted research, but this interest "soon waned." States that around this time new insecticides made their way to the market, which in turn slowed research dramatically. Discusses the major soil compaction problem that is prominent in New Zealand, summarizing how over-compaction occurs and how to fight it. Discusses seeding rates and also stresses that "provided the turf is dense and in a good healthy state soil acidity is of less significance than when the turf is in poor condition."
