| Abstract/Contents: | "On an acid, impoverished turf infested with moss application of 1·5 to 2·0 gm./sq. yd. of calomel effectively checked the moss invasion and allowed recolonization by Agrostis tenuis and other grasses. In conjuction with a lawn sand 1 gm of calomel was sufficient to suppress moss and this combination was superior to ordinary lawn sand in initial kill and persistence of control. Addition of 1 oz. superphosphate per sq. yd. to ordinary lawn sand or a calomel/lawn sand mixture improved their efficiency. New materials were tested as mosskillers and dichlorophene shows considerable promise in this direction but further work is required on this and other materials to determine the best formulation and to establish whether the materials will prove to be worth while propositions." |
