Abstract/Contents:"An assessment of the evidence of (a) the distribution of species in natural grassland; (b) the effects of continued fertilizer treatments on permanent swards; and (c) the growth of grass species in sand culture experiments, demonstrates that the grass species normally to be found in lawn and sports turf possess very distinctive soil nutrient requirements. As a result proper application of fertilizers is very important in maintaining good turf, and misuse of fertilizers may have catastrophic effects. The particular fertilizer treatments most likely to encourage the growth of individual species are tabulated."
