Abstract/Contents:Discusses various considerations that go into water racecourses. Stresses that the rules for watering include "water early...water adequately...water often." Explains that if one of these is not followed, "the turf suffers in one or more of the following ways: 1. Growth is not sufficient to give a good appearance. 2. Growth is not sufficient to compensate for wear. 3. The turf becomes excessively fibrous. 4. The turf becomes short of root." Lists several points that would need to be considered if the goal is to maximize the amount of grass grown. Explains how watering requirements can be determined from meteorological data.
