Abstract/Contents:"A traffic stress device using football studs (GA-SCW Traffic Simulator) was developed that can impose soil compaction (SC) and turfgrass wear (W) stresses on turfgrass sites with the characteristics of the unit being: a selfpropelled, riding device; uses an adjustable differential slip mode of action with football studs on two rollers; and is capable of applying traffic treatments in a forward and reverse manner. The traffic simulator was assessed for the ability to determine relative traffic stress tolerances of seven seashore paspalums (Paspalum vaginatum Swartz) and three bermudagrasses (Cynodon spp.) under soil moisture conditions of near saturation to dueld capacity. Highest traffic stress tolerance as determined by effects on turf coverage was exhibited by 'Tifway' and 'TifSport' bermudagrass and 'Temple 1' paspalum, while the least traffic stress tolerance was noted 'Adalayd' and 'PI 509022' paspalums."
