Abstract/Contents:In 1976-8, caryopses of cocksfoot cv. Motterwitzer, meadow fescue cv. Bundy and perennial ryegrass cv. Maprima were harvested at 2-day intervals from the beginning of the fully ripe stage and threshed immediately. 1000-seed wt., germination capacity, av. duration of germination and electrical conductivity of the eluate and coleoptile length of the seedlings were measured during the following winter and the relation of these values to the sum of daily mean value for temp. and global radiation at harvest was studied. The sum of daily mean temp. from the start of flowering was an appropriate criterion for starting daily m.c. determinations to decide readiness for threshing. Threshold values were 530-550, 425-450 and 475-500 deg C for cocksfoot, meadow fescue and perennial ryegrass, resp.
