Abstract/Contents:Presents different methods for combatting turfgrass diseases, "including sound cultural practices, proper disease identification, effective chemical control and a plan for proper fungicide application". Explains proper cultural practices like: maintaining adequate soil moisture, fighting soil compaction, mowing at the proper height and proper fertilization techniques. Details the importance of accurate and timely diagnosis of turfgrass diseases. Provides "guidelines to properly collect a turf sample for disease diagnosis" and a "Fungicide resistance chart". Recommends that you proceed with caution when applying fungicides. Also recommends that you either talk to other turf managers in the area or consult with a turf expert. Suggests you develop an application plan in order to protect from disease damage, is preventive in nature and a schedule be made for proper timing. Comments on the need to rotate your fungicide application in order to reduce fungicide-resistant fungal pathogens. Lists the different steps needed to reduce turfgrass disease, maintaining correct soil moisture, reducing soil compaction, proper mowing height and using the proper amount of fertilizer. Suggests that "if you implement a total turf disease control program, including cultural practices, proper identification and fungicide selection, and appropriate preventive and curative approaches, other sports turf managers will be asking you for advice".
