Abstract/Contents:Describes the function of roots and their importance in protecting the quality of groundwater. Explains the importance of understanding the effects of chemicals on root hairs. Discusses the differences and similarities between cool-season turfgrasses and warm-season turfgrasses. Provides information about soil texture, soil temperature, soil reaction, soil compaction, soil waterlogging, soil aeration, soil salinity, hydrophobic dry patch, and shade and their impact on root growth. Addresses mowing height, nitrogen nutritional level, potassium and iron levels, irrigation, thatch, preemergence herbicides, and insects, nematodes, and diseases and their effect on root growth.
