Abstract/Contents:"A study of 132 coastal dune sites throughout the state north of Collier and Dade Counties indicates that several native or naturalized plants can be used for vegetating coastal dunes. Many of these plants also have features that make them useful for beautification and landscaping. The most important of these plants are seaoats (Uniola paniculata L.), beachgrass or shoredune panicum (Panicum amarulum Hitchc. and Chase), saltmeadow cordgrass or marshhay cordgrass (Spartina patens (Alt.) Muhl.), marsh elder (Iva imbricate Walt.), beach morningglory (Ipomoea pes-caprae (L.) Sweet), cucumberleaf sunflower (Helianthus debilis Nutt.), bitter panicum (Panicum amarum Ell.), common seagrape (Coccoloba uvifera (L.) L.), bay bean (Canavalia maritime (Aubl.) Thou.) and siltgrass or seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum Swartz)."
