Abstract/Contents:Discusses effluent water use for golf course irrigation. Asserts that due to growing water use concerns, and the fact that almost 80% of water used in the United States is for irrigation purposes, increasing pressure has been put on golf courses to use effluent water, especially in the southwest. Describes California legislation that requires golf courses to use effluent water. Describes the three levels of effluent water treatment: in primary treatment, solid materials are removed; in secondary treatment, organic matter is removed and pathogens killed; in tertiary treatment, coliform bacteria are brought down to acceptable levels for irrigation.
