Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the yearly costs of the turfgrass industry in Washington. Describes the areas of research done by the "Western Washington Research and Extension Centre at Puyallup Washington in 1958." Details the characteristics of test soil and preparations made to it before establishing turf at the Western Research and Extension Centre. Discusses the application of different levels of phosphorus, nitrogen, calcium, and potassium to test plots. Describes the results and discusses impact of the added nutrients. Also discusses the relation of the amount of calcium in the soil to the quality of the turf. Discusses the disease susceptibility of research plots depending on their nutrient composition specificaly calcium and pH levels. States that "research in the state of Washington, and especially in the western part, indicates that complete and balanced fertilizers must be used to maintain the best turfgrass vigour and quality." |
