| Abstract/Contents: | "The object of the present trials was to test certain compoints which migh kill dicotyledonous weeds without damaging young grass and consequently help in the development of a new pure grass sward more quickly than conventional means." "Six herbicides (thre benzonitriles, two bipyridyls and an MCPA/dicamba formulation) have been tested on young grass contaminated with broad leaved weeds. The effects on the young grasses were assessed, particular notice being taken of the amounts of ground cover attained. The reduction in weeds also was observed. The benzonitriles gave good control of weed and caused little damage to the grasses. The bipyridyls appeared to give effective weed control and caused more damage to the grassea than the benzonitriles. The MCPA/dicamba formulation killed weeds efficiently but caused considerable damage and proved unsuitable for young turf." |
