Abstract/Contents: | Discusses how to solve the problem of tree roots growing near the surface of the lawn. States that "the most effective remedy in many lawns is to revise the watering schedule so the lawn receives water only when it has wilted, and is thoroughly and deeply watered when necessary." Also discusses the pros and cons of shrubs versus grass in an industrial park. States that "grass is, of the two, the easiest and least expensive to maintain. For new plantings on large industrial sites, I ususally recommend starting with grass. If there are sufficient extra resources, I suggest carefully planning and establishing some shrub plantings where they will provide interest and do not interfere with mowing" and that "when all the costs of establishing and maintaining ornamental shrub plantings are considered, turfgrass costs compare quite favorably." |
