Abstract/Contents:"It is oftern desirable to establish a park or playing field on land made waste by industrial processes. Power-station waste-ash, which is commonly available at low cost, can be used as a fill material on such sites. Problems of structure, toxicity, and nutrition associated with the growth of turf on coal ash are discussed. Experiments on the tolerance of grass species to ash conditions, and on responses to fertilizers and bulky ameliorants are dealt with in this paper. The results show that with shallow (3 in.) coverings of soil or sewage humus, and correct management, ash can be made to grow an acceptable fine or coarse turf."
